The Ebola virus outbreak is believed to have originated with fruit bats. In Africa it has spread through contact with infected monkeys, fruit bats, antelope, porcupines and other infected humans. Doctors say it may even be transmitted by coming into contact with an infected individual’s soiled sheets or clothing.
