The interview isn’t about train trivia. They want to know: are you a safe pair of hands? Have you ever stayed calm in a crisis? For example, tell them about the time your toddler had a meltdown in a supermarket and you still managed to find the peanut butter. That’s a valid example of customer service under pressure.

They’ll ask about teamwork. Talk about the time you co-ordinated a group holiday with friends who had wildly different opinions. (We all have that story). TfL loves that because driving a train is actually a pretty solo job, but you need to communicate well with control rooms and station staff. Just be yourself—the version of yourself who remembers to say “please” and “thank you” to the bus driver.
