Here’s the cheat code: use a “cashback” comparison site like Quidco or Topcashback. Some sim-only deals offer £40–£60 cashback simply for buying through their link. That’s like getting paid to save money. Prefer a smarter visual? Download an app like BillTracker or Truebill (now Rocket Money) that scans your bills and flags old contracts. It’s like a personal assistant for your wallet.
Also, consider “rolling sim-only” plans with no long-term tie. They often cost £8–£15 a month and include 5G. The best part? You can switch in one click if you find a better deal. No early exit fees. No guilt. Just financial freedom with a side of 5G speed.

And here’s a bonus: if you’re still using the handset you got two years ago, you likely own it outright. That means you can get a sim-only plan and keep your phone. A quick reality check from pop culture
Remember the infamous “Friends” episode where Ross talks about “the break” with Rachel? That’s your phone contract: you thought it was over, but it just kept costing you emotional (or actual) rent money. Or think of it like “The Office” (UK version), where David Brent pays extra for a better-looking stapler he never uses. We’re all a little Brent when it comes to our bills.
In fact, a 2026 survey by Uswitch found that nearly 40% of Brits have no idea when their phone contract ends. That’s like not knowing when your Netflix subscription expires—except Netflix doesn’t charge you double for watching “Bridgerton.”
