You might wonder, “Okay, but is this a freak accident, or are they all like that?” The average adult male giraffe stands about 16 to 18 feet tall. That’s still tall enough to order a drink from a second-story window. Females are slightly shorter, capping out around 14 to 16 feet.
Imagine your typical two-story house. The top of the roof is about 20 feet. So a normal male giraffe can almost look you in the eye from your bedroom window. That’s the kind of neighbor who doesn’t need a ladder to change a lightbulb.
Tallest Giraffe In The World
But Wait—Those Legs!
A huge portion of their height lives in their incredibly long legs. A giraffe’s legs alone can be 6 feet tall. That’s taller than most people on the planet. So when a giraffe decides to take a nap, it’s a major operation. They literally fold themselves up like a camping chair.
And here’s a funny little fact: a giraffe’s neck—which we all assume is the tallest part—is actually the same length as its legs. Yes, a giraffe is basically a horse on stilts, with a spine stretched out to a ridiculous degree. Nature has a sense of humor.
