Outside the count, the scene was pure British chaos. A man dressed as a giant pencil (don’t ask) tried to photobomb Anika Patel’s victory speech. She handled it like a pro—she gave the pencil a hug.
Geoffrey Trumble was seen consoling his top-hatted cat. The cat looked unimpressed, which, honestly, is the mood of the entire election. Even the returning officer accidentally announced the result twice, because he forgot he’d already said it.
There was also a minor scuffle over the last sausage roll in the buffet. Democracy, folks. It’s messy, it’s weird, but it’s ours.
What This Means for You (and Your Commute)
So, what does a Labour win by a hair’s breadth mean for the people of Holborn and St Pancras? Practically nothing, for now. But it does mean the potholes on Euston Road will probably still be there next week.
Anika Patel promised to fix the local library’s leaking roof, increase funding for youth clubs, and “listen to the pencil people.” That last one was a direct quote. I’m not sure if it’s policy or a cry for help.
