You need a backup plan anyway. Bus is a beautiful, slow disaster. Walking is very healthy and very sweaty. Cycling means you get to look superior to everyone else on the pavement.
And if all else fails? Worship at the altar of the Central line. It will probably break down, but at least it’s a familiar kind of suffering.
A Little Piece of Unsolicited Advice
Stop refreshing the TfL app. It just makes you more anxious. The app is designed to share pain, not joy.
Instead, take a deep breath. This week is strike-free. You can plan that dinner in Zone 2. You can wear your nice shoes without fear of a five-mile walk.
And if by some miracle of bad luck a strike gets announced while you’re reading this? Well, that’s just London being London. Buy a bigger coffee. You’re gonna need it.
Seriously. Just walk to work. You’ll feel like a hero.
