It is the Birthplace of Simón Bolívar
In case you missed this lesson in your history class back in the day, Simón Bolívar was the Venezuelan military leader who led the revolutions against Spain and helped to free the South American countries of Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia from Spanish rule. He was known as El Libertador and his legacy is celebrated and honored throughout Venezuela and South America through famous sites, town squares, monuments, parks and even the nation of Bolivia is named after him.
