12. The Legend of El Dorado
Spanish explorers were lured to South America with stories about cities of gold in what is now Colombia. One legend tells of a Muisca king who would cover himself in gold dust during festivals, then dive from a raft into Lake Guatavita. Today, the legend endures and its tales are brought to life in Bogota’s incredible Gold Museum.
