4. Don’t hand them your empty plates—they’ve got a system for clearing. Feel free to stack plates on the table but, unless they ask, let them pick things up themselves. It’s when we interfere too much that dishes get dropped, and nobody wants that.

3. If the service is a little slow, be patient. It’s probably not their fault. Stuff goes wrong in the kitchen all the time but waiters are often left to take all the blame.
