7. What is Solanine?
Solanine is the toxin (Glycoalkaloid Poison) contained in nightshade vegetables including potatoes. It is known to have caused food poisoning and other issues but has a purpose for the plant as it protects the vegetation from insects and predators. It is a less commonly known fact that potatoes produce compounds called glycoalkaloids that have been shown to be toxic to both to man and to animals. This is why we don’t eat raw potatoes, everybody got that?
