Start by looking at the life you have now. Not your friend’s life, not the life you see on TV and not the life you thought you wanted when you were younger. Look at your life now and think about the elements of your life that make you happy. Instead of focusing on what is making you miserable (frustrations at work, an obnoxious co-worker, problems with your home, financial obstacles…) think about what is bringing you joy. Positive thoughts can lead to positive results; thinking negatively about your life won’t get you the life you want, and it certainly won’t help you identify what is lacking in your current reality. Focusing on what makes you happy, and therefore what else might make you even happier, is a great place to begin.
