4. Turkey
When purchasing a turkey for the big day, think 1½ pounds per guest. This will ensure that there is plenty of meat at the table, with leftovers to spare. If you know the majority of your guests prefer white meat, skip buying the whole bird. Instead, purchase separate breasts and legs to roast. If you’re buying boneless meat, you’ll need about eight ounces per guest.

5. Gravy
A little bit of gravy goes a long way but there’s nothing worse than running out! Besides, nothing goes better with leftover turkey than leftover gravy. Allot at least ⅓ cup gravy per guest, and have about one additional cup for every six people.
