U.S. QUILTING HISTORY
The quilts made by Colonial women for their families were used to keep the cold at bay. They also had to be creative because materials were scarce and they were busy surviving from one day to the next, so they used whatever materials were handy and worn. That was recycling at its best. The U.S. economy was changing rapidly, however, and the Industrial Revolution made it possible for fabrics to be manufactured quickly. Materials then became plentiful and varied and so crafters took quilting to another level.
