In the overwhelming world of beauty products, there are so many products to choose from that it can make your head spin. But one item that most likely isn’t in your regular routine, but should be, is rosewater. And not just because it sounds pretty or smells amazing; rose water also happens to be really great for your complexion. As Refinery29 reports, according to Maria Barry, a medical aesthetician at Union Square Laser Dermatology in New York City, “rosewater is a great gentle, natural ingredient with many skin-enhancing benefits; it can help hydrate, refresh, soothe, and cleanse your skin.”

So what exactly is rosewater? This liquid is made by distilling rose petals with steam so that the water is infused with the aromatic oils from the rose petals. That rose water is then used for a variety of different products ranging from moisturizers, facial toners, lip balms, perfumes, skin masks and more. As for what it can do for your skin, the list is long.  As Huff Post reports, Dr. Tabasum Mir, a skincare physician in cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic laser surgery, explains that rose water is “anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, has antioxidants and it hydrates—four main reasons why it’s so affective and can be used for so many reasons.” She continues to say “it’s also good for those who are acne prone because people don’t realize that acne is caused by bacteria on the surface of your skin.”

Rosewater can soothe irritated skin, can help sunburned skin heal, can balance the PH of your skin, help manage facial oil, and it can make you feel happy, awake and energized thanks to the pleasant smell and fresh feeling when you apply this product. It’s the ultimate multi-tasker of beauty products—it does so much with so little effort, and yet most people still aren’t using it as a part of their daily routine. Seems silly if you ask us.

But good news—just in time for spring, we’re here to share tons of ways to incorporate rose water into your daily beauty repertoire.

For starters, you should invest in a basic rose water facial mist like this Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist. It’s so easy to use and it works fast; you simply spritz the mist on your face once a day to experience hydrated skin that looks refreshed and balanced. You can apply this mist any time, but if you use it first thing when you wake up, or right after a workout or shower you’ll really feel the positive effects.

Another great way to cleanse skin with rose water is to apply a toner every day after you wash your face. Rose water has natural astringent properties so it can remove residue and dirt yet it is gentle so it doesn’t further irritate skin. In fact, it actually soothes skin as it cleans, and leaves you with a fresh palette so that all of your other skincare products work better and your skin is glowing and refreshed.

If you are dealing with any scars, whether they are from acne, sun damage, or a cut or scrape, then rose water can also help with the healing process, because it has antibacterial properties that encourage skin regrowth and regeneration.

And rose water isn’t just for your face and skin; it can help improve the look and texture of your hair as well. Shampoo with rose extracts such as this one can add volume while cleansing your hair so that your strands shine without being weighed down. Thanks to the antioxidant properties of rose oil, you will minimize the loss of pigmentation so that your hair color and texture looks and feels amazing. Finish off your style with this volumizing mist that is made up of 96% rosewater, so it offers all the good stuff and none of the chemicals or residue.

Rose water is also a great, all-natural way to remove makeup at the end of a long day—simply mix rose water with a few drops of coconut oil and remove makeup using a cotton swap. And you can add rose water to any moisturizer for added hydration and an amazing scent that will stay on your skin all day. And while your rose water products are making you skin look gorgeous, it will also make you feel gorgeous thanks to the mood-enhancing properties of roses. The aroma alone will make you smile and perk up, and that boost in your mood will last all day long while your skin continues to improve.
