This tradition of eating Roscón de Reyes dates back to the Middle Ages and originated in France. They would choose a “king” for the Christmas festivities and would celebrate by eating this pastry. They hid a bean, which symbolized the body of Jesus, was hidden in the dough. The bean was believed to be a good luck charm for whomever happened to find it.
