Piers Morgan was born Piers Stefan O’Meara to Gabrielle Georgina Sybille and Vincent Eamonn O’Meara on March 30, 1965 in Newick, Sussex, England. After his father died and his mother remarried as a child, Morgan took his stepfather’s surname and began to call himself Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan.
Morgan grew up in Sussex where he first attended a private school before later moving to a public school due to financial constraints. His first school was Cumnor House, but he later moved on to Chailey School and then Priory School. He then enrolled at Harlow College where he studied journalism.
After graduating from university, Morgan became a reporter for newspapers in Surrey and South London. After about a decade, he was recruited by The Sun newspaper as the entertainment/spectacle column writer. His big departure came in 1994, when he was chosen by media mogul Rupert Murdoch to become the editor of News of the World.
Morgan, who became the youngest person to run a national newspaper, remained in the post for just a year before leaving the country after receiving a complaint for violating the code of conduct for editors.
