4. Involve your kids in decisions.
Discuss your plans with them. Don’t make major choices independently, involve your kids and decide as a family. Maybe you can even take a vote so everyone’s voice is heard. Of course at the end of the day, you are an adult and you are the parent, so your opinion will play a bigger role in the final outcome. But that definitely does not mean your kids should not be involved at all.

5. Be a role model.
You can’t just expect your kids to do the right thing simply because you utter the words Because I said so. You hated it when you were a kid and your kids will hate it now. Children need to have an example of what is right so they don’t choose what is wrong by default.
