To accommodate the need for 24-hour operation, fluorescent lighting was installed in 1963.

The U.S. uses the canal more than any other country followed by China, Japan, Chile and North Korea.

11. A long trek.
It’s obviously shorter than going all the way down and around South America but it still takes between eight and ten hours to traverse the canal.
