But while keeping weight gain in mind during pregnancy is practical, thinking about it too much can turn into an obsession. It becomes terribly stressful for some women.
“I’m on my second pregnancy and feel obsessed with baby weight,” says Lynne*, a mother in her early 30s. After her first pregnancy, “I didn’t yet know how amazingly hard it would be to lose the weight.” And now her anxiety is all-consuming. “I think about my weight almost all day and night,” she says. “I feel the weight issue is getting in the way of my being completely excited about having a second baby.”
