Let’s not forget Alan Rickman—Snape, Snape, Severus Snape. He passed in 2016 from cancer, and I’m pretty sure the whole fandom collectively sobbed for a week. Rickman brought such layered angst to that greasy-haired potions master that you couldn’t help but root for him even when he was being a total git. Side note: did you know he only had six major scenes in the first film? Yet he somehow made each one iconic.
Another villain we lost? Richard Griffiths, who played Uncle Vernon Dursley. He died in 2013 after heart surgery complications. Griffiths was that perfect mix of bumbling and terrifying—like a human bulldog in a bowler hat. Every time he yelled at Harry about “no funny business, boy!” you could feel the breakfast table shake.
