9. Watch for Secondary Drowning
If your child has had a near drowning incident, he or she should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. Victims of secondary drowning generally appear to be okay, but if enough water has entered the lungs, they can experience a drop in blood oxygen levels, and death may occur between one and 48 hours afterwards.
