A recent article in Mother Jones citing research by Ernie Hubbard (The Vegetable Detective) caused a flurry of alarming headlines declaring that kale may contain dangerous levels of thallium, a toxic heavy metal. Yikes! Since then, the claims have largely been debunked. A major point being that thallium is absorbed through soil and it has been found in a number of popular veggies. To completely avoid it you’d have to give up a lot more than kale and, as long as you’re not eating it 24/7, you should be fine.
