First, check the calendar. Is it a weekday? A weekend? A random Tuesday that feels like a Friday? The rotation changes faster than my mood at a buffet.
If it’s a normal turn, you’re probably looking at one of the big names. Maybe Clayton Kershaw is on the mound. Is his back cooperating today? Nobody knows. He’s a legend. He’s magic. But he’s also held together by hope and a good chiropractor.
Or maybe it’s Walker Buehler day. Hold your breath. Is he throwing 98? Or is he throwing 94 with a “let’s see what happens” look? Buehler is like a spicy burrito—you know it’s going to be exciting, but you’re not sure if you’ll sweat through your shirt.
The Wildcards: Who Even Are These Guys?
Sometimes, you look at the lineup and think, “Wait. I’ve never heard of that pitcher. Is he from a movie?” That’s the Dodgers farm system baby. They grow pitchers in a lab under Dodger Stadium.
You’ll get a rookie named something like Gavin Stone or Bobby Miller*. They throw fire. They have zero fear. They also might walk five guys in a row. It’s a gamble. A fun, sweaty-palm gamble.
Is Tyler Glasnow on the schedule today? Then cancel your afternoon plans. You’re watching the game. He’s 6’8” of pure strikeout energy. He looks like he was built in a factory to only throw curveballs. It’s beautiful.
