6. Protect Your Fingers
One of the reasons that knife experts can work fast and efficiently (and still be safe) is that they know the trick to protecting their fingers as they cut. All you need to do is curl under your fingers, forming a claw position. To do this, according to Kitchn.com, simply “curl the fingers of your opposite hand into a “claw” and rest just the tips of your fingers on top of the ingredient you’re about to cut. Tuck your thumb in; your wrist should be parallel to the cutting board. As you slice, move your fingers back, still keeping this claw formation.” That way, as you work, even if your knife slips or you lose your grip, your fingertips are still protected.
