It’s that time of the year where our bellies will be stuffed from the end of November through New Year’s. We try to keep up with our exercise routine but unfortunately for many, exercise is achieved running through the store aisles and mall parking lots. And then, all the holiday food surrounding us brings out the sweet tooth!
CAN YOU STOP AT ONE?
Self control? What is that? Just a small bite of dessert and one sip of eggnog? Who can stop at just one? Not me!
I am a sucker for holiday flavors. Sometime in mid-September, my house begins to smell like cinnamon… all the way past Mardi Gras (I live near New Orleans). One way I satisfy my sweet tooth is through healthy smoothies filled with all the holiday flavors.
HEALTHIER “APPLE PIE”
Two of my favorites are Apple Pie and Eggnog Smoothies. They are perfect for breakfast, a sweet lunch or a light evening dessert. I love these so much I even make them as a post workout smoothie by adding a scoop of vanilla protein.

APPLE PIE SMOOTHIE
Courtesy ofMOMables™’ Recipe Stash
Makes: 1 smoothie
Ingredients
1 cup of milk (I used vanilla almond milk)
1 6oz vanilla Greek yogurt
1 small apple, peeled and chopped or
½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
½ cup crushed ice
1 graham cracker (all 4 rectangles)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 pinches of nutmeg
Instructions
- If you are using an apple, place chopped apple in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for about 1-2 minutes until pieces are soft (hey, if you have roasted apples on hand… use those). Let cool a few minutes.
- In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon and nutmeg if desired.
EGGNOG SMOOTHIE
Courtesy of MOMables™’ Recipe Stash
Makes: 1 smoothie
Ingredients
1 cup of Silk-nog (this is a light version of eggnog!)
1 6oz vanilla Greek yogurt
½ cup crushed ice
½ teaspoon cinnamon2 pinches of nutmeg
Instructions
- In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon and nutmeg if desired.
- If you really want to skip the health factor you could top your smoothie with whipped cream; but that would defeat the purpose of making these. If you do, take a few more laps around the mall.
