I’m not talking about the train. I’m talking about the hidden tunnels and bunkers. London is a city built on top of itself. Visit the Churchill War Rooms—it’s a bunker where the government ran WWII from underground. It’s damp, cramped, and fascinating. Plus, you’re already dressed for a dark day.
Alternatively, take a walk through the Thames Tunnel at Rotherhithe. It was the first tunnel built under a river. It smells faintly of old sewer and history. You’ll feel like a mole, but a very cultured mole. And you’ll emerge on the other side feeling like you’ve earned a hot chocolate.
