Scans are often shared on sketchy pages with pop-up ads, forced redirects, or “download now” buttons that don’t actually deliver what they promise. Even if the file itself is only images, the route matters. In practice, users land on ad-heavy sites before they reach the content.
For parents, it’s not just about device security. Some sites include additional unrelated downloads or embed scripts that can be risky—especially on older tablets and phones used by kids. If you’re helping a child, you don’t want them clicking around to chase a PDF.
At a minimum, only use reputable sources, keep devices updated, and avoid installing anything offered “to open the file.” If a site asks for downloads beyond the images themselves, treat it as a red flag.
