You don’t need toxic sprays. Spiders hate strong scents like peppermint, tea tree, and citrus. Mix a few drops of peppermint oil with water in a spray bottle, and spritz your baseboards, windows, and corners. Your house will smell like a spa for humans—and a horror movie for spiders.
Another trick: leave out chestnuts or cedar blocks. Some folks swear by them. Even if they only work 50% of the time, you’re still having fun experimenting. And if a spider sees a chestnut and thinks “nope, not today,” you’ve won the psychological battle.
Light It Up, But Not Too Much
Outdoor lights attract insects, which attract hungry spiders. Switch your porch lights to yellow bug bulbs or motion-sensor lights. This cuts the dinner buffet, and spiders will wander off to find a better restaurant. Inside, keep lights off near windows at night so bugs don’t swarm the glass. Less bugs = less spider interest. It’s simple logic with a glowing payoff.
