If you can peel yourself off your pitch, the town of Knaresborough is a ten-minute walk downhill. It’s got a castle that’s more “atmospheric ruin” than “Disney castle,” and a market square with enough tea shops to fuel a small army of grannies.

Don’t miss the Mother Shipton’s Cave—it’s a tourist trap, sure, but it’s a weird tourist trap with a petrifying well that turns teddy bears into stone. Oddly satisfying. And you must hire a rowing boat on the river. It’s cheesy, it’s cliché, and it’s one of the best afternoons you’ll ever have.
The Verdict (And a Final Grip)
Is this the site for you? If you want flat, easy access and a perfectly manicured lawn, maybe look elsewhere. But if you want a campsite that feels like a secret hideout with a view, this is it.
My only real complaint? The midges. Oh, the midges. They descend like a tiny, buzzing apocalypse at dusk. Bring industrial-strength repellent, or accept your fate as a snack. (I chose the latter and regretted it.)
All in all, Knaresborough Caravan And Motorhome Club Site is a delightful, slightly hilly, ridiculously scenic gem. It’s the kind of place where you plan to stay for two nights and end up extending to four, just because you can. Just don’t blame me if you spend the whole time staring at the viaduct instead of walking the dog. It happens.
