The modern internet loves two things: certainty without receipts, and captions that inflate awe. A highlight gets clipped, re-uploaded, and paired with text that’s designed to be shared—especially when the underlying footage already looks unbelievable on first viewing.
In practice, “moon” versions tend to emerge through a predictable pipeline. Someone posts a long-distance shot (or a compilation). The post gets engagement because the distance feels outrageous. Then later accounts reuse the same clip, swapping in bigger claims—“from the moon,” “100 feet,” “beyond half court,” or similar lines designed to trigger reactions.
Sometimes the video itself is edited. A creator might shorten the sequence, crop out the scoreboard clock, remove the play description, or adjust the framing to make the shooter’s release look farther away than it is. When you remove context, any distance claim becomes harder to check.
