If it’s determined that your child is perfectly capable, it’s too easy to blame his academic problems on laziness or lack of discipline. Sometimes, with young boys, especially, the issue is simply one of maturity, and they need time to grow out of it. So if your son is having a hard time staying focused, you might try to help him learn to like the subjects he struggles with. For example, my own son didn’t like to read, and he performed poorly in that subject and any other that required reading. But now that we’ve started giving him books that he enjoys, he’s asking if he can read, and his attitude about reading in school has improved.
