Back in 1994, when Oasis was still slugging it out in clubs, you didn’t “go on sale” in the modern sense. You had to call a box office or queue up outside a record shop at 6 AM, rain or shine.
I remember reading interviews where fans camped out for hours, clutching paper tickets that looked like they were printed on a toaster. No bots, no queue systems—just your own two feet and a lot of hope.
The announcement for their 1996 Knebworth shows? It was a radio whisper. If you missed the DJ’s shout-out, you were out of luck. No social media to save you.
The chaos of the Demand
By 1997, ticket sales became a blood sport. When Oasis announced their “Be Here Now” tour, phone lines jammed instantly. My older cousin told me he used three landlines at once—one for him, one for a friend, one for backup.
The irony? They weren’t even that good on that tour. (Don’t @ me, you know it’s true.) But the hype was unstoppable. People bought tickets just to say they were there.
It was the era of “first come, first served,” and the internet was still a baby. You’d call a ticket agent, listen to a busy signal for 22 minutes, then get disconnected. Pure rage.
