Little Pim: Animals
Written & Illustrated by Julia Pimsleur Levine
Abrams Appleseed • 2012 • 10 pages
This award-winning language learning series for children was developed by Julia Pimsleur Levine, daughter of the famous Dr. Paul Pimsleur who devised the world-recognized Pimsleur language learning system. Like the others in the series, these two board books feature vocabulary in three languages—English, Spanish, and French—and are perfect for supporting trilingual development in toddlers and preschoolers.
The durable books, made up of thick and brightly colored pages, feature a simply illustrated panda that children will love as their language-learning guide. Just as the titles suggest, the books teach words related to numbers and animals, and offer phonetic spellings of the words covered next to the proper spellings to aid pronunciation.

Numbers focuses on learning numbers one through ten while also introducing food-related vocabulary. Animals highlights 12 different animals typically found on a farm. Both board books provide opportunities for interaction with their lift-the-flap and pull-tab features, and open-ended questions and prompts throughout encourage children to find the correct answer concealed in one of the three flaps or tabs. Each book ends with a pictorial dictionary to help review the words covered.
