Each year in the United States, millions of dogs, cats and other domestic animals are euthanized in shelters because there are not enough homes for all of them. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah has long been dedicated to ending the cycle of animal homelessness, abuse and neglect. Its motto, No More Homeless Pets, simplifies the organization’s mission of a home for all animals, and a move towards humane no-kill shelters across the US and beyond. Beginning in late August and running through September, Best Friends’ annual Strut Your Mutt fundraising effort goes nationwide and internet-wide, with opportunities for dog owners and pet lovers everywhere to participate in the fun.

Live Strut Your Mutt events will take place at the sanctuary in Kanab, and at other major cities throughout the US, including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and several more. The one-day events will feature the Mutt Strut—a leisurely dog walk—followed by pet beauty contests, photo ops, free samples, prizes and giveaways. Each participant registers in advance, and through online efforts or in person, solicits donations to help Best Friends’ efforts to help homeless pets. If there isn’t a Strut Your Mutt event in your city or town, you can still participate in the virtual fundraising effort.

Even if you’re not a pet owner, Strut Your Mutt is a great family and community event, filled with wagging tails, wet noses and plenty of doggie kisses!
