This summer, learning to surf should be at the top of your to-try list. That’s right, surfing. Surfing is one of the most exhilarating and healthiest physical activities you can do; it whips you into shape, it challenges you, it makes you feel connected to the world and to nature, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also really really fun.

According to Better Health Channel (as reported by Livestrong), “you can get a lot of physical exercise from surfing that will ultimately lead to weight loss and a toned body. Surfing strengthens the core and legs. It’s called “ocean therapy” because you develop your body through the constantly changing movement and height of the waves.” You’ll burn a lot of calories and tone your body, head-to-toe. To be stable on your board you’ll need a strong core, you’ll use your arms for paddling and your legs for swimming and navigating the waves. When you learn to surf your entire body will be sore, regardless of how physically fit you think you are. It’s a new workout that is different from any other fitness class you’ve ever tried, and it will push you to your limits in the most rewarding way.
