Karla Birbragher

With spring in the air, we can’t help but think of pastel, mellow colors. But, this spring’s beauty trends are borrowing from fall and winter looks; including glittery eye shadow, groovy eyeliners, and colorful hair extensions.

As Karla Birbragher, stylist for celebrities such as Maritza Rodriguez, Tommy Torres, Chino y Nacho, JenCarlos Canela and Gaby Espino, tells us, spring is about “Color, color, color!” To help you be in style, we have compiled easy yet effective tips to channel your inner diva this season.

FACING SPRING
“A natural even-toned skin is essential,” says Karla. We left behind matte, lifeless complexions—very common during the winter—and traded them in for dewier, more supple skin. With so much color on lips or eyes, you don’t need too much foundation or concealer; instead, opt for lighter makeup such as BB Creams or CC Creams. This way, your face will still look fresh without that cake-y look.

Try: Olay CC Cream ($22.50) • Tarte Cosmetics BB Tinted Treatment ($34) • Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm ($34) • Clinique CC Cream ($35) • L’Oreal Paris Miracle Blur Smoother Finishing Cream ($20)

ALL ABOUT EYES
Don’t shy away from bright eyes—if you pair them with neutrals (think black or brown eyeliner and mascara), your makeup will look more refined. Also, textures and glittery finishes are in this spring. A bold move for shy moms, but as Karla mentions, “you can always elevate your look with a pop of color.”

Try: Dior 5-Couleurs Eyeshadows Ballerina Pink ($61) • Chanel Eyeshadows Palette Pearl River ($80) • Lancome Color Design Infinité 24H Tremendous Turquoise ($24.50) • Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour Orchid ($24) • Armani Beauty Face & Eye Palette Coral Bliss ($88)

BE CHEEKY
Did you know a little tee bit of blush can make you feel a lot better? A swipe of your favorite hue will give your face a healthy glow—so necessary after winter. For the next few months, go for a colorful yet sheer cream blush or mix and match it with bronzers.

Try: Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Pot Rouge ($25) • Aerin Multi Color for Lips and Cheeks ($42) • Benefit Cosmetics Fine-One-One ($30 • Elizabeth Arden Limited Edition Bloom Radiant Bronzing Powder ($38) • Valerie Beverly Hills Rose Blush Snow White ($55)

SMACK YOUR LIPS
Beauty companies have released some kind of hybrids between lip balms, lipstick and lip tints—and you can actually achieve a very springy look with them. The idea is to get a punch of color without looking too “done”. These products will also keep your pout hydrated, not to mention it’s a fresher option compared to dark, matte lipsticks we saw this winter.

Try: Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color Shine Ravenous ($48) • Nars Cosmetics Satin Lip Pencil Luxembourg ($25) • Lancome Baume in Love Midnight Rose ($26) • L’Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain Coral Tattoo ($8) • Koh Gen Do Mainfashi Lipstick Fresh Pink ($39) • Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Bright Orange ($30)

NAIL THAT COLOR
Spring is often associated with soft, Easter-like colors—and while this is probably true in many nail collections, this year anything goes. From polka dots to stickers, feathers and lots of texture, bold nails are in. But if you prefer a more conservative manicure, then stick to bright or sheer nail polish. Either way, you can’t go wrong!

Try: Zoya PixieDust Nail Polish Chyna ($9) • OPI Nail Polish Can’t Find My Czechbook ($6) • Le Metier de Beaute Mint Bliss Nail Lacquer ($18) • Essie Nail Polish Hip-Anema ($8) • Dior Vernis Cruise Lime ($23) • Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss Reliable Red ($5)
