I went back to college when I was almost 45 years old. And I didn’t just go to college to get a BA, I finished my BA and went straight into graduate school to get an MFA. I was inspired by my mother, who went into medical school when she was in her late thirties. But I also couldn’t see a way out of my predicament. I was recently divorced and had been a freelance photojournalist all my life. At that point I needed to find an average paying job that would have me on a schedule that paralleled my son’s own school schedule.
