This arrangement was all fine and dandy until my son told me that his father intended to warehouse him in a city-run community center daycare program most of the week, while he worked. While I certainly understand that such arrangements are necessary for many working families, they are not necessary for my son because he has many family members who would be more than happy to care for him during those hours, including my father and, for that matter, me. (To compound matters, my son had a traumatic experience over the summer at a similar program and bears lifelong physical scars as a result.)
