Color is the quickest route to “crazy,” but it can also smear if you apply it carelessly. Texture, meanwhile, creates drama even without heavy color. Use both and you’ll get results that photograph well.
Make temporary color look intentional
Instead of covering everything, place color in patterns: zigzags, diagonal streaks, or a single “lightning bolt” line. One strong detail often reads better than scattered specks. Let the color dry fully before you touch it again.
If your hair is dark, choose color products designed to show up on deeper shades. For light hair, pastels can look striking; for dark hair, bright neons usually stand out in school lighting.
Texture options when you skip color
- Crisscross twists: Twist small sections and pin in a grid-like pattern.
- Rope braid effect: Braid loosely, then pull tiny sections outward for thickness.
- Messy top + smooth sides: Contrast makes the hairstyle look “styled,” not just unplanned.
