Never use Neosporin, Polysporin, or any triple-antibiotic ointment. They contain neomycin, which can cause allergic reactions and kidney damage in cats. Also, avoid any cream with hydrocortisone or lidocaine. Your cat’s liver can’t process these the way ours does. (Side note: If you put lidocaine on yourself, you numb pain. If your cat eats it, you numb their heartbeat—not great.)

What about hydrogen peroxide? Absolutely not. It kills healthy cells and makes the wound heal slower. Just clean with warm water or a saline solution. Your cat will hate it, but at least they won’t hate you.
