Okay, let’s talk about Eddie Kaspbrak. Oh, Eddie. Our hypochondriac pal who finally mans up. He gets literally ripped in half by the deadlights. It’s sudden, it’s violent, and you’ll probably gasp. The worst part? He dies a hero, sacrificing himself so Bill and Richie can run. It’s the ultimate “be careful what you wish for” moment for his character arc. Ouch.
Then there’s Richie Tozier. Wait, no—Richie survives. But Pennywise takes a massive chunk out of his arm. It’s a close call. You’ll be clenching your coffee mug, wondering if the loudmouth comedian is done for. He’s not. But it’s a huge scare. The movie lets him live, probably because we all need one character to smile at the end.
The Side Characters Who Get Snack-sacked
Let’s not forget the poor sidekicks. Remember the little boy at the beginning of the movie? Dean’s brother, the one who gets taken from the carnival? Yeah, he’s gone before the opening credits finish. That’s Pennywise’s appetizer. Then there’s Vic Criss, the bully from the 1989 timeline. He doesn’t die on screen, but you see his nasty fate in a flashback. Spoiler: it involves a giant, bloody fridge. Classic Derry hospitality.
And who can ignore Mrs. Kersh? She’s the creepy old lady who invites Beverly into her house. Surprise! She’s actually a giant witch creature. Beverly stabs her, and she dissolves. Does she count as a “death”? I’m counting it. She was definitely alive enough to be terrifying.
