Let’s be honest for a second—Strictly fans are a passionate bunch. We’ve been spoiled by years of show-stopping routines, like that iconic salsa from 2019 that made us all cry. So when a contestant does a perfectly fine jive that’s just okay, we act like someone cancelled Christmas.

I think we’ve forgotten that these celebrities are trying to dance while terrified of tripping over their own feet. The routines might be a little odd this year, but that’s part of the charm! Remember the year a nun did a tango to “Sex Bomb”? Exactly. We’ve survived worse.
Still, I get it. You sit down with your cuppa, ready for pure escapism, and instead, you get a couple shuffling around like they’re avoiding a loose paving stone. The disappointment is palpable. It’s like ordering a full Sunday roast and getting a sad, dry biscuit. You’re allowed to moan.
The Silver Lining: Drama Is Entertainment
But here’s the sneaky truth: we love complaining about it. It’s the national sport of the UK—right after complaining about the weather and queueing. The outrage over the routines creates a shared experience. It brings us together, even if it’s just to roll our eyes in unison.
And honestly? If everyone loved every routine, it would be boring. We need the bad ones to appreciate the good ones. That clumsy samba? It makes next week’s elegant waltz feel like a masterpiece. It’s the yin and yang of ballroom, people.
Plus, the memes that come out of these controversies are pure gold. I saw one yesterday of a confused lemur with the caption, “Me watching the judges give a nine for that.” Comedy, my friends. Absolute comedy.
