Before you rage-quit the Overground for good, take a deep breath. Here’s your survival guide:
1. Don’t Panic-Learn Everything at Once. You don’t need to know all six lines. Just focus on the one you use daily. If you commute from Canonbury to Wapping, you only need to know that your train is now the Windrush line. That’s it.
2. Use Colour as Your Anchor. TfL has given each line a distinct colour. The Lioness is yellow, the Mildmay is blue, the Windrush is red, the Weaver is maroon, the Suffragette is green, and the Liberty is grey. Until you memorize names, just look for the coloured dot on the map. Your brain loves colour more than words.
3. Download an App Update. Citymapper and Google Maps have already updated. Seriously, just let the algorithm do the heavy lifting. You don’t need to mentally store the name “Weaver” when your phone tells you, “Take the maroon line towards Cheshunt.”
4. Embrace the Fun Fact Factor. This rebrand is a goldmine for trivia. Did you know the Liberty line runs through Havering, which was once a royal hunting ground? Impress your friends on the next group outing. “Oh, this is the Liberty line. You know, named after the historic liberty of Havering?” You’ll sound incredibly cultured.

5. Give It Six Months. Remember when we lost the “tube maps on the platform” and everyone lost it? We adapted. By autumn, calling it the “Overground” will feel as dated as asking for a “Blackberry Messenger PIN.” Trust the process.
