Contrary to what the name suggests, the famous Albert Square doesn’t exist in the East End of London. Instead, the entire outdoor set is located at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. That’s about 12 miles north of central London, a short train ride from King’s Cross.
Elstree is a legendary name in British film and TV history—it’s also where Star Wars and Indiana Jones were shot. So when your favourite character storms out of The Queen Vic, they’re technically standing on the same hallowed ground as Han Solo. Fun fact: the set was originally built in 1984 and cost around £1 million to construct.
