You already know what I’m hinting at. May the Fourth be with you. Yes, it’s Star Wars Day. A glorious, nerdy, unofficial holiday celebrated by people in capes and people who own full-sized R2-D2 replicas.
But banks don’t care about your lightsaber collection. They don’t close for themed galactic events. Yet the sheer delight of a Monday that sounds like a holiday tricked a lot of people into thinking it was real.
Let me show you the calendar math
In 2026, May 4th is a Monday. That’s nice and tidy, right? But here’s the kicker: May 1st is a Friday. So you’ve got a whole weekend leading into that Monday. And weekends are when bank holidays often hide.
If you look at the real list for 2026 in the US, we’ve got Memorial Day on May 25th. That’s a Monday too. But the 4th? Nope. Just a plain old working Monday.
Unless… you live in a country with a different sense of humor about holidays.
