As the sun goes down, a peaceful calm descends. You realize you haven’t accomplished a single “goal” for the year yet. And you are fine with it. In fact, you’re proud.
Ordering takeout is the only acceptable dinner option. Cooking on New Year’s Day is a sign of mental illness. You order something greasy, eat it straight out of the cardboard container, and spill soy sauce on your pajamas. It’s a beautiful, chaotic ritual.
4. The Not-So-Serious Resolutions
Around 9 PM, you might start thinking about resolutions. Don’t get ambitious. Don’t say “I’ll run a marathon.” You won’t. Start small.
Resolve to lose the remote less often. Resolve to master the art of ignoring your inbox for 48 hours. Resolve to argue with less passion about potato chips in 2026. These are goals you can actually keep while lying horizontal on a sofa.
And the best part? If you break these resolutions by January 2nd, nobody cares. The bar is on the floor, and that’s exactly where you’re sitting. Happy New Year. You made it. You didn’t even have to try.
