Appeal it! If you were stopped for a genuine emergency, or the sign was hidden by a tree (happens), you can contest the PCN. Take photos, write a polite letter, and cross your fingers. Councils are not monsters—most of them. They might let you off with a warning if you’re sweet enough.
But don’t bank on it. The golden rule: if the kerb drops, your car stops… somewhere else. Learn it, love it, live it.
One More Thing: Electric Cars and Dropped Kerbs
If you have an electric car and need to charge it across the pavement, don’t. Running a cable over a dropped kerb is twice the trouble—it’s a trip hazard and a parking offence. Get a dedicated charging point at home. Your car will thank you, and so will your shins.
