Now comes the PVC cement. This is the strong stuff. It chemically melts the plastic together. It’s not like super glue. It’s a chemical weld. You apply primer first. That purple liquid looks like grape Kool-Aid. It cleans and softens the pipe. Then you apply the cement. Work fast. You have about ten seconds before it sets.
How to connect PVC pipe to the kitchen sink drain?
Push the pipe into the fitting. Give it a quarter turn. Hold for fifteen seconds. Don’t let go early. It will pop out and spray purple stuff everywhere. Trust me. I learned that the hard way. My cabinet looked like a unicorn threw up in it.
Important: Do not glue the connection at the metal trap adapter. That part stays mechanical. You need to be able to unscrew it later for cleaning. Otherwise, you’ll have to cut the whole thing out when a hairball attacks. And hairballs will attack. They’re the ninjas of your sink.
