Lowlu offers an “Extreme Heat Challenge” where the sauna hits 110°C (230°F). That’s hotter than a pizza oven, and about as comfortable. I tried it once. My eyelashes curled. I started seeing the ghost of my great-grandmother, who told me, “You should have bought better life insurance.”
I lasted 90 seconds. The guy next to me lasted twenty minutes and left looking like a raisin with a beard. Not my proudest moment, but also not my worst. (That was the time I tried to put out a grease fire with water.)
The Etiquette: How Not to Be That Person
Rule #1: never splash water on the rocks unless you want to be public enemy number one. That’s the sauna equivalent of screaming in a library. Rule #2: don’t bring your phone. The steam will kill it, and also, nobody needs to see you taking a selfie with “#SweatGoddess.”
Rule #3: do not attempt to start a philosophical debate about the meaning of life while everyone’s naked. Trust me—existential questions hit harder when your towel has slipped and you’re three seconds from a full-moon situation.
