Why is it so hard to get a straight answer? Because Easter isn’t a federal holiday in the U.S.
The government keeps working. The mail comes (mostly). But retailers get to decide their own fate. They balance profit against giving their employees a break.
And more and more companies are choosing the break. Which, let’s be honest, is a good thing for the stressed-out cashier. But a terrible thing for your forgotten dinner rolls.
The Golden Rule? Call Ahead.
You can read fourteen articles (including this one), but the only reliable move is to call.
Pick up the phone. Dial the number. Ask a real human being, “Hey, you guys open on Easter?” The internet can lie. A human voice usually won’t.
Or, better yet, plan ahead. Buy your ham on Saturday. Buy your chocolate on Friday. And just enjoy the glorious, quiet chaos of a forced day off.
Here’s the bottom line. If you need a very specific item that isn’t a bag of potato chips, expect a closed sign.
But if you really need a soda and some gas station flowers? The world has your back. What a weird, wonderful little planet we live on.
So, go enjoy your Easter. And please, don’t wait until 4 PM to start cooking. Learn from my past mistakes. I’m still trying to figure out how to make a full ham dinner from a Twix bar and a Red Bull.
